Summer's New Creation Blogfest!

First of all, a very Happy Birthday to Summer over at My Inner Fairy I hope the next year is wonderful for you and your family, Summer!

Summer is hosting the very cool New Creation blogfest today- one that even with my pathetic eyesight (so many words, so little vision...)I can't stay away from. Here's what she's asked for and it's very simple:

Rules:

1)Pick one ending sentence from last years stories, your favorite one that you wrote. (Only one, and yes it has to be an ending sentence)

2) Write one brand new starting sentence for a story you have been thinking about, or something off the top of your head. But it must be your first sentence. (Yes only one, and yes it must be new.)

I can do that! So here we go.

Sentence one: The ending from one of last year's stories: taken from my flash fiction piece Wish Trip, which is I think the most meaningful fiction thing I wrote in 2010. It's only 250 words in total so here's a link if you want to check it out.

"I promise."

Now here's the new sentence- straight off the top of my head and I am thinking even though it runs on a little, it could stand alone as a micro-fiction piece...

The three most vital, adored, despised, and dangerous words in the English language are deceptively short, pretty, and innocent until combined-- after which they have the unearthly, sometimes unholy power to build, break, save, or destroy.

I had originally included what those three words are but it definitely seemed to need a second sentence and besides- I think it'd be more fun to get your comments as to what three words come to your mind. Make me laugh or bring tears to my eyes, people. I know you can.

Be sure to check out the other entries! Thanks to Summer for hosting.

  2. Fabulous ending! 3 words, "I love you." Seems to fit the criteria depending on the situation :)

  4. Bru- your last sentence is so short but sweet at the same time! Your second sentence...hmmm 3 words that must be profound- I Love You?

Thank you fairy much for the birthday wishes and for participating!

  5. Hi everybody! Nice to see some new faces, welcome.

Yeah, you guys are good. Those were the three words I had in mind (I love you). Though I offer here now what I consider some interesting and hopefully entertaining alternatives:

    "Honey, I'm pregnant!"

    "It's over now."

    "We're in love!"

    "No you don't!"

    "Beam me up!"

    "We're getting married!"

    "You're kidding, right?"

    "I don't care."

    "You're not serious."

    "To the Tardis!"

    "Wait, there's more!"

    "I'm leaving you."

    "You've lost weight!"

    "Really, I promise."

    "That's my sister!"

    "He's no Jedi."

    "Waiter...check please!"

    "Have we met?" or alternately...

    "I remember you..."

Any ideas for other entertaining possibilities? I'll be off to check out your entries soon as I make a pot of coffee!

  6. Hi,

    1) short and sweet, but says so much.

    2) ah deadly, if said in flippant or cunning manner: has to be I love you. ;)

  10. It must be "I love you". Or "I must pee!" (which I told my daughter last week when she was taking her time to come to the car after school. =)

  11. That last line is powerful, but so much more so in context after reading the entire flash fiction. Very touching. And I definitely liked the opening line, too!

  14. That's so cool! I would have liked it better if the first sentence happened to be 3 words but cool nonetheless.

  15. Both were great. I thought "I love you," as well.
    Hmmmm...
    Alternatively,
    I hate you.
    It's your baby.
'Do Not Push' (on a red blinking button)

    that's all for now.
Good to be back at your blog. I have some catching up to do. :) Hope you are well.

  16. I really enjoyed your flash fiction piece - I have a soft spot for short fiction and Wish Trip is a great story!

The second sentence is brilliant and, as you say, could stand-alone.

  19. Love that second sentence! So many possibilities.

    BTW, Nice to meet you!

  20. The power of your closing line is in its simple sincerity. The opening sentence is so true - other things are as destructive but nothing can build as ferociously.

  21. LOL at the "honey, I'm pregnant" line. Oh, and the "I promise" line is great. Makes me wonder about the story that came before it!

  22. Wow, look at all the wonderful new faces *waving*! Hi Liz and everybody! Thank you so much for stopping by and hanging around. I look forward to getting to know you better.

I'm so sorry this is such a weak-@ss reply to all your fabulous comments but after the day I've had today my eyes are killing me, so I can't stay. But I did have to say thank you to all of you, and I look forward to visiting your blogs too as often as I can.

    hugs

  23. February: Your 2nd sentence is my favorite of the whole blogfest. And even though I think I know the three words, so glad you left them out. This sentence is powerful and I'm hooked without even knowing the genre.

Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to leave a comment! I do my best to answer each but due to my limited eyesight I am not always able. Please know that I do read every single one though and appreciate them all! --bru
