I Just Have To Say It

Sorry, I just have to say it: Not everyone writing for NaNoWriMo resigns themselves to writing “crap”.

Nano 2011, I  call “Welcome to my HellNoWriMo” because I’m a NaNoRebel- I’m writing, rewriting, and editing.

Just like a real writer.

Some new words…
“There is a shadow side to Quinn, since boyhood, that he can never escape to completely stand in the light. His is a soul divided by halves, and not neatly down the middle as by tailor’s shears. The edges are exposed, ragged, and as sharp as broken mirror.”

~February Grace

10 What say you to that?:

  1. I love HellNoWriMo - great! I have to revise and focus on my writing even for NaNoWriMo. That's why I barely make the goal each day. Good luck! <3

  2. My writing group is doing NaNoFiMo: taking these last two months of the year to finish our novels. We set up a word count goal and urge one another on. Hopefully we can force ourselves, especially those of us who take lots of time to edit as we go, to move forward a bit faster, but not so fast that all we produce is junk.

  3. I didn't resign myself to writing crap - I was writing my next book at the time!

  4. Love the new words, especially that last line. And you know I don't do NANO. :)

  5. HellNoWriMo sounds about right to me.

I'm also writing and rewriting and then rewriting some more. I've been stuck on one scene for a few days now because I know it's not good enough and I'm not willing to settle for anything less just to hit a word count.

    Best of luck to you...

  7. Hi new visitors! :~) Welcome, happy to see you. Thanks you for stopping by however you found your way here!

Brenda, thanks for visiting, it's nice to meet you! Yeah I know what you mean about wordcount- it's been a struggle this year to make daily count (usually I have a 10k day early on in the first few days but between my eyes and working on an existing story's continuation there's no way...)because I am being so meticulous about every word. But I want 50k of material I can actually USE if I want to- though I know there's not enough room for it in the book, it'll make me compare very carefully the way some scenes already written were done to decide which make the most powerful additions. Good luck with your story!

Yat-Yee that's wonderful that you're finishing your book with all that support from your writing group! It must be great to have that kind of support. I'm lucky to get that here from kind folks like you telling me what you're up to and a few folks from years past on the NaNo forums/blogging buddies. Thank you for coming by today (and these are the worst comment replies ever I apologize folks, 2+ hours on the phone with my mom have severely scrambled my brains today :/

Alex- I just don't believe you are capable of ever writing badly, period! NaNo is no exception, you just do it to well to ever do it badly :)

Thanks for the compliment on the new words, Jules. Spurs me on to keep going! *hugs*

M.J. I was/am counting on NaNo just for that reason- to get me unstuck. I actually got into a sort of stage-fright situation where I was afraid to continue writing for my own characters- afraid that I'd let them down and not tell the rest of their story the way it should be told. So for me NaNo is the thing that gets me unstuck- even this year, when I really doubted anything could. That and the encouragement of a few close friends, and that's how I'm writing at all these days. I hope that you can get and stay unstuck and tell the story that's in your heart! I find that when I get stuck is when I start wondering if other people will like it. If I'm thinking about just the characters and the story they have to tell- the words find their way back to me. Good luck!

Michelle, I'm proud of you! Keep going, you're on your way now! *hugs*

PS Blogger keeps trying to take my comment away from me (I knew it was badly written but seriously...) so if this double posts or another version of it that's why!

On a more superficial note, I love your new avatar/photo. It's so lovely.

  10. Bru, you're doing NaNo! Though I like HellNo, better. I am deathly afraid of it, for some reason. I'm so proud of you. And you still made it over to my place. I'm VERY impressed. Way to go!
