It’s much too early.
Everywhere I go, look, am.
Plastic antlers.
Singing Santas.
Tinsel overhead.
Why can’t I at least have autumn?
Why must they remind me every second with marketing, glitter and fabricated families what my own will never be again?

Bonus: Since I didn't post for the last three days: a new, 42 word poem.
Unnatural Cold
Mother Nature knows too well
I'm frozen now beneath
interior of snow
draped in ice's silken sheath
a sterling blade to pierce my heart
and bleed me to the core
for love is love forever still
...love is love forevermore.
~February Grace 2011
What do I have to say? That I miss your poetry.
ReplyDeleteWonderful piece. So raw and true.
Thank you too for your comment on my blog. You brought such a valuable perspective to the topic. Thank you so much!!!
I'm with Lydia, I miss reading your poetry! Such a beautiful poem, Bru. *hugs*
ReplyDeleteI havent' visited here before but I saw your comment on Lydia Kang's Medical Mondays post today in response to my question about traumatic blindness.
ReplyDeleteyour comment was exactly what I needed as I venture into writing from a blind POV for my NaNoWriMo novel. I've read some books (both fiction and non-fiction) about and from the point of view of vision impaired, but I don't know anyone personally.
I hope am I not too forward contacting you about potentially finding out more about your experience? I just wrote a scene last night of my character in a public bathroom! I wonder how far off I am? Am I crazy to try to attempt this? It's just an idea that grabbed hold of me and wouldn't let me go.
Thank you again for your insightful comment.
And, I agree with you about Christmas. The deluge of marketing starting in November ruins what is a beloved time of year for me.
Hi Margo, pleased to meet you, and welcome! I'd be happy to give you what insight (no pun intended) I can to help a fellow Wrimo out!
ReplyDeleteI don't think you're crazy to attempt writing that story! It's the ideas that most speak to your heart that I think you just have to try writing.
If you haven't already please send me an email with any specific questions you may have (and you can send that scene in the bathroom to me if you'd like me to peek at it and give you my thoughts...) my email address is in the sidebar here or you can contact me thru NaNoMail too if you want you can find me there under the username February.
Please be advised I may not always be able to answer you right away as I do have to watch how many hours a day I read/use my eyes these days but I will be happy to help as I'm able.
talk to you soon!
~bru
I LOVE the second one. It's raw and powerful. Makes me jealous that I can't write poetry like that.
ReplyDeleteWonderful poem.
ReplyDeleteAnd not ready for Christmas...
Yes, my friend there ought to be a law against plastic antlers.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love this poem! The first two lines say it all. Big Hug!
Jules @ Trying To Get Over The Rainbow
Hi Bru. Love everything you write.
ReplyDeleteOn a f=different note, I took some new photos of the jacarandas this past weekend. Just emailed some to you now.
Aww, thank you Stina, so kind of you to say. It was one of those that just came to me and I had to jot it down before it got away...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Alex, I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who isn't ready for all that yet.
Love ya, Jules! Seeing you here always makes me smile.
KIM!!! The pictures are GORGEOUS. Such a gift, thank you so much (will be emailing you to thank you properly but I just had to say) they make all kinds of parts of my brain happy and it takes a lot to do that these days.
