It is my pleasure today to share with you a Q&A with author Laura Diamond!
Laura’s novelette NEW PRIDE is coming out NEXT WEEK and I am lucky enough to get to bring you not only a fun interview but a sneak peek at a snippet of the cover! So please join me in welcoming Laura to Pitch Slapped.
FG: Hi Laura! Congratulations on the release of NEW PRIDE, the prequel to SHIFTING PRIDE (which will be released in December.) Happy to have you with me today, thank you for visiting.
LD: Hi February! Thanks so much for hosting me today. I loved answering your questions. :)
FG: When did you start writing?
LD: I started writing during my fourth year of residency. I found that my job demanded so much of me, that I needed another outlet for balance. Writing gave me that outlet. I could imagine new worlds and delve into that fantasy as a means of escape. It's also very satisfying to create something.
FG: What drew you to the YA genre?
FG: What drew you to the YA genre?
LD: I enjoy reading across a whole range of genres, but what I find most compelling about young adult books is the mix of action, tension, new love, sweet passion, and high emotions.
FG: What inspired you to write NEW PRIDE/SHIFTING PRIDE?
LD: I always start a story off with a character. They usually come to me and I can picture what they look like, where they live, and what circumstances they face. I knew Nickie was a shapeshifter right off, but wasn't sure what kind. It took a lot of drafting to find out she can shift into a panther. Her story, SHIFTING PRIDE, follows her journey of discovery. NEW PRIDE is a prequel novella/novelette that highlights her dad's adolescence and how he discovered himself and love.
FG: What do you hope people take away with them from these stories?
LD: I hope people will take away with them how important family bonds are and how important it is to do the right thing, even when it's painful, scary, and seemingly impossible to do. The bottom line: Never give up fighting for what matters.
FG: When/Where will NEW PRIDE be available?
LD: NEW PRIDE will be available Friday, November 2, 2012 and SHIFTING PRIDE will be available December 7, 2012. YAY!
FG: Yay indeed! Now here it is, folks, that sneak preview of the cover that we promised! Pretty!!!
Congratulations Laura, and best of luck with NEW PRIDE and SHIFTING PRIDE!
